Blue Sunday--May 4, 2008 Blue Sunday--May 4, 2008

The South Loup River Blues Festival stockholders always like to give something back to the community of Arnold as a way of thanking them for their hospitality during the blues festival.  And, the perfect opportunity presented itself when one of last year's headliners, Bill Lupkin, called and wondered if there was anywhere in our area he could play while passing through in May.  Since the newly restored Rialto Theater in Arnold has been a location that we've often thought would be fantastic for a blues show, we contacted the theater board and they agreed to rent us the theater on May 4th.  Once the date and location were set, the rest fell into place!  So, we are proud to present "Blue Sunday" at the Rialto Theater in Arnold, Nebraska.  Bill Lupkin and the Chicago Blues Coalition will be our special guest for a 90+ minute show starting around 3:30.  Opening for Bill Lupkin at 3:00 is Dangerous Parallel, a band from Broken Bow.  Members of the band are high school students Quentin Orr, Thomas Peterson, and Dustin Hunt.

Those of you who were at last year's festival will be thrilled to see this living legend once again.  And for those who weren't in Arnold, last July, here's some background on this artist. Bill Lupkin played his harp with many of the greatest players in blues during the late 60s and early 70's in Chicago . Some of those legends include Jimmy Rodgers, Buddy Guy, Otis Rush, Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf, Hound Dog Taylor and many more. Bill retired his harp in the mid-70s then decided later to return to recording and the road. He has released several recordings since coming back. His most recent release in late 2007 "Hard Pill To Swallow" has received critical  acclaim.

The show begins at 3:00 that afternoon.  Your ticket price includes a meal at Jim's Bar that will be served from 1-3:00 p.m.  In addition, a special wine & cheese reception will be held at the Nebraska Farm House Antiques/Oasis Coffee Roasting Co. and several Arnold businesses will be open that afternoon so you can look at all the unique products they offer.  Tickets are sale now but only a limited number are available. You may purchase tickets for $25.00 each at KCNI/KBBN or at Nebraska Farm House Antiques/Oasis Coffee Roasting Co. in Arnold. You can also mail payment to South Loup Blues Fest Inc., P.0. 409, Broken Bow, NE 68822 and we'll send the tickets to you.

Don't wait too long to get your tickets...you don't want to miss a chance to see Bill Lupkin inside the newly restored Rialto Theatre on May 4th  in Arnold!  Funds raised during this event will be donated to the Rialto Theater restoration project and help the blues festival organizers offset costs for the July show.

This event is made possible through the support of William Erickson, Attorney at Law, Broken Bow, NE; Sennett, Duncan, Borders, & Jenkins Law Office, Broken Bow; and Arnold and Ruff, Lindemeier, Gillett, Dawson & Troshynski Law Office, North Platte.
